Research In Motion haven't generated anywhere close to the sales they wanted from the BlackBerry Playbook, released April 2011. Instead of cutting their losses and moving ahead they have decided that they will release an updated model later this year.
The move is causing some confusion in the industry as demand for the Playbook has been at best, lukewarm. Research In Motion must believe that a re release will change the mind of the consumer. CEO Thorsten Heins has said at a BlackBerry World press event that the new PlayBook will feature 4G LTE connectivity.
According to reports circulating on the Canadian Reviewer, the next tablet is going to get a processor upgrade, to 1.5 ghz dual core and Near Field Communication technology. The new Playbook will have a similar appearance to the current model.
Kitguru says: Is this enough to rescue the Playbook? Unfortunately, we don't think so.
