iOS and Android dominate US smartphone market

Apple's iPhone has been riding high on the American market, with the latest reports claiming that it now has taken 30.7 percent of the smartphone market, and 14 percent of the mobile market in Q1 2012.

comScore released their quarterly data report from the MobiLens Service yesterday. While these figures are impressive, the success story for Google is even better. Android has grown by 3.7 percent sequentially to reach a market share of 51 percent.

Microsoft and Research In Motion continue to struggle. Blackberry market share dropped from 16 percent in December 2011 to 12.3 percent in March 2012. Windows Phone dropped from a weak 4.7 percent to an even weaker 3.9 percent in the same time.

Apple are the third largest handset maker in the U.S. during the March quarter, behind LG in second with 19.3 percent and Samsung in top with 26 percent. Behind Apple were Motorola and HTC in fourth and fifth places.
