Apple retracts ‘4G’ branding from new iPad, is now ‘Celluar’

Apple appear to have found a quick marketing fix for the 4G branding of the new iPad. The LTE enabled tablet encountered much criticism outside of the USA where the 4G part of the celluar radio just wouldn't work. As a result it is now known as the ‘Wi-Fi + Celluar' iPad rather than the ‘Wi-Fi + 4G' iPad.

Apple has rebranded the '4G' tablet to the 'Wi-Fi + Celluar' iPad

This change has come into effect on the online stores in US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand and presumably many other regions. Authorities in the United Kingdom, Sweden and Australia were among others that threatened Apple with misleading advertising investigations. Due to social pressure Apple even offered refunds to unhappy customers in Australia.

Apple makes it clear in the online store that it “can roam worldwide on fast mobile data networks, including HSPA, HSPA+, and DC-HSDPA.” Interestingly there is no mention of the 4G LTE connectivity at all in the online stores outside of the USA; until you get to the fine print.

KitGuru says: We're not sure if what Apple has done here is commendable or condemnable.
