Facebook have launch an app store, attempting to expand the social networking site into an entertainment platform. Facebook announced their ‘App Centre' last night in a blogpost, confirming their first move into the gaming, application and lifestyle sector.
The App Centre is only going to be available in America from today but will open in other countries over the coming weeks, reaching potentially 901 million people. There are already 600 apps available, including the popular Draw Something.
Matt Wyndowe from Facebook said in the blogpost “The App Centre gives you personalised recommendations, and lets you browse the apps your friends use, It only lists high-quality apps, based on feedback from people who use the app.”
Facebook are planning to keep people on the site longer, by offering entertainment. The store will be available on Android apps and Facebook's iOS as well on their main website. The end user can send the app via the website and then download on their mobile device.
Kitguru says: Facebook see this market as a primary way of expanding, as last year 31bn applications were downloaded.
