From Software shows off Armored Core 6 with new gameplay trailer

From Software ruled the 2022 gaming landscape with Elden Ring, which is widely considered to be the studio's best game to date. This year, the studio is taking a break from its Souls-like games to return to Armored Core. Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon is due out later this year and we now have our first good look at gameplay.

In a stream this week, From Software released roughly 13 minutes of gameplay footage, giving us a deep look at one of the game's missions in action.

While YouTube compression does reduce some of the sharpness, the game does look pretty great. The mechs move fast, with melee and ranged abilities, plus boosted dashes to dodge incoming fire or reposition for a better attack angle. While this game won't offer a fully open world, it does offer large levels with lots of verticle area too, so there is plenty of room to fly around and really explore the maps.

While the Souls games each have story tied to them, the story is presented in a fairly minimal way, allowing the gameplay to do the talking. With a game like Armored Core, we can expect more traditional story-telling elements in the form of game dialogue and cutscenes. The gameplay shown today has some in-mission dialogue, but spoilers for the overall plot are kept to an absolute minimum.

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon will launch on the 25th of August for PC, Xbox and PlayStation.

KitGuru Says: Armored Core 6 looks like it will be fun to play. The game is just one month away, so we should be seeing more of the game over the next few weeks. Will any of you be picking this one up?
