WoW server blade auctions raise over £200,000

The auctions for the original World of Warcraft server blades have now been completed, with Blizzard raking in an impressive $300,000 (£212,000) from the sale. Beginning in October last year, Blizzard has been trickling the blade's onto auction site eBay, with all proceeds going to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

A blade is essentially a self contained server, with each bit of hardware put up for sale having seen use in the early days of World of Warcraft, perhaps the most iconic MMO ever released. Each one was sold within a clear acrylic enclosure, with World of Warcraft artwork upon it, as well as the server name that the particular blade was responsible for and autographs from many members of the WoW development team.

If you're just hearing about this now, I'm afraid you're far too late. Visiting the auction page now only gives you a message thanking everyone for their support and to follow the charity auction organiser KompoltQuality on twitter and Facebook.

KitGuru Says: It's nice to see companies like this making charitable donations, as well as providing some great collectors items for big fans of the game.
