Smartphones are used most for web-browsing, not phone calls

A mobile phone by definition is a mobile device that can make and receive phone calls. A smartphone expands on this by being a mobile phone and also being able to run applications. However, it appears that most people are taking advantage of the PDA side of smartphones rather than the mobile phone side.

A recent study by mobile network O2 has discovered that smartphone owners spend over twice as much time browsing the web than making phone calls. An average users spends more than two hours a day using their smartphone, of which 25 minutes are spent browsing the web. Following this is social media, music and gaming with 17.5, 15.5 and 14.5 minutes devoted to each task respectively. In 5th place is phone calls which take up 12 minutes of time daily. The remainder of time is dedicated to tasks shown in the picture above.

The study also discovered that roughly 50% of users had replaced their alarm clock and/or watch with their smartphone.
