ZTE launches the Grand X Android smartphone

Today in London, ZTE launched their Grand X smartphone. While we're not entirely sure if this is the same phone that they were touting as the “most advanced gaming smartphone” last week but part of me hopes that it isn't.

We'll start with the good stuff, the Grand X comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and from the looks of it, it has not been modified or tweaked in any way. There is also a respectable 4.3 inch qHD (960 x 540) display and a 5 MP rear camera.

However, it comes with what we thought was a retired mobile chipset; NVIDIA's Tegra 2, which wasn't that amazing when it was seen in tablets early last year. Plus it only has a 1650 mAh battery to keep the processor ticking over and has just 512 MB of RAM.

I have to admit that some of these downfalls can be forgiven as it will be available for a bit under £200 in the UK from August – so it is a competitive entry-level smartphone. It will also be available in France and Germany.

KitGuru says: While the lack of a true gaming smartphone is a let down, the Grand X looks to be a nice entry-level smartphone.
