FujiFilm XF1 – classic design with modern technology

The Fuji X series of cameras has proven popular with the enthusiast audience, especially those who want a handy secondary camera for general shots, rather than having to carry around a bulky SLR all the time.

The Fuji XF1 will be sold with three ‘classic' leather colours which will cover the aluminum shell. Fuji are offering red, smooth tan and pebbled black to cover a wide range of user. What is appealing to budding photographers is the focus on old school manual settings, include a mode dial with PASM and other exposure modes. It will ship with a 4x manual zoom lens (25-100mm) and it will retract almost completely into the body.

The XF1 will measure 4.2 x 2.4 x 1.2 inches and this camera is said to be a low cost, everyday shooter for advanced consumers and professionals.

The XF1 will use a 12 megapixel, 2/3 inch EXR- CMOS sensor, the same as the X10.

Review sites said that the X10 experienced some major problems with blooming specular highlights, noticeable in images taken with bright highlights and low ISO's. Fuji issued a firmware update then began to replace the physical sensor in some of the cameras. We would assume that the XF1 has already received all of the updates to stop the problem.

The camera is due for release in October for $500. We would assume that UK pricing will be around the £430 inc vat mark. The company claim that coordinating cases will be available close to launch time.

Kitguru says: An attractive camera with ‘retro' styling. Under the hood it should be capable too.
