There is a brand new update rolling out to the international version of the Samsung Galaxy S III today. The Samsung flagship has already received a few updates since its launch earlier in the year which smoothed performance but this “stability” update removes functionality.
So what does the XXBLG6 firmware take away? Local search; which is the ability to search applications, music, contacts, bookmarks and quite a few other things. This follows a couple of weeks after the North American variants received an awfully similar update.
The main patent that resulted in the Galaxy Nexus being temporarily banned in the United States earlier in the month was the patent surrounding multiple source search which is Apple's attempt to protect Siri. It appears that this update for the Galaxy S III gets around this problem. However, the international version of the Galaxy S III is not officially sold in the United States in the first place.
