Multiplay i46 is simply massive – check the latest pics

As the final stragglers made their way to the huge campsite, pitched their tents and lugged their weapons of destruction to the multiple halls of the Telford International Centre, KitGuru took a step back to consider the scale of this event in 2012. We must confess, we were simply not equipped to shoot the halls in all their glory. Read on for the gory details of our optical failings.

For many moons, the world plus dog was happy with a 50mm lens. Then the optics went a little nuts. Paparazzi across the planet demand more and more telephoto, while naturists [Naturalists? – Ed] demand powerful macro zoom lenses, so they can shoot smaller and smaller objects. Then, in the middle, you have the wedding/school photographers with their un-naturally wide lenses.

This what we should have brought to Multiplay i46, not a 24mm lens.

It was just not wide enough. Not by a mile.

Here are some amazing shots that show the scale of Mutiplay's hugely successful i46 event. Where necessary, we have had to PhotoChop several shots together – or it would not have been possible to bring you the full enormity of what we witnessed.

Just ONE of the main battle halls at Multiplay i46. Yep. You heard us right. There was more than one of these monster halls in action over the August Bank Holiday weekend. With almost $30,000 at stake - no wonder.

Eagle-eye view of a battle hall, courtesy of an 'Access All Areas' Pass. It's not Dreamhack. Not yet.

Teams that get to the finals will be on this gorgeous stage, with thousands cheering them on to victory

.

In the 10 years since we've been visiting Multiplay's Insomnia Events - this was the BEST exhibitor hall yet

.

Craig and Stewart Fletcher are the gaming gurus behind Multiplay and the 46 LAN gaming events they've successfully delivered. Stewart's older, so he uses the traditional 'cup' method for ingesting alcohol. Judging from the thick tube bulging under his t-shirt, we suspect that Craig's mainlining Bombardier. Hurrah!

.

The famous Multiplay raffle was alive and well at i46. Top prizes from Asus, Gigabyte, Thermaltake, Cooler Master, BeQuiet, Sapphire & others (worth £1,000s) and each will be won with a £1 ticket. Get in there!

.

One of many Nom Nom mountains on sale at Multiplay i46. What's really scary is that Multiplay sells this stuff for very little profit - it's all about keeping the gamers fuelled

.

While Multiplay i46 provides a warm and welcoming environment for all races, colours, creeds and sexes - you have to say that diabetics will probably view it as a torture paradise. Nom Nom Mountain II

.

The awesome power of Will Lowther manning the t-shirt stand. If KitGuru had to buy one, which would it be?

.

Yep. At heart, we just want to hear distant church bells toll in the misty morning as a dead black swan floats down stream. If you're not sure of the reference, you need to pick up a copy of Sabbath's first album.

.
So, there you have it.  Having taken over several rugby pitches for their campsite, Multiplay has squeezed thousands of hard core gamers, overclockers and enthusiasts into Telford's International Centre for many days – with the promise of fun, friendship and around $30,000 in prize money. Without doubt, this is the best Insomnia event ever. Which was nice.
