Remnant II is a co-op focused Souls-like which switches out traditional melee combat for 3rd person shooting. Being a sequel to the 2019 surprise hit, many expected Remnant II to do well. Even so, the game has already reached its first major milestone – selling 1 million copies in under a week.
Making the announcement via a press release, publisher Gearbox revealed that since its launch on the 25th of July, Remnant II has already sold over 1 million copies – achieving this milestone 8 times faster than the first game. Additionally, Remnant II managed to also surpass the first game’s concurrent player count, with more than double the number of players.
Speaking on the sequel’s success, developer Gunfire Games’ founder and CEO ‘David Adams’ said “To everyone who helped us achieve this amazing milestone, thank you for your unwavering support. This was a multi-year journey for us and we couldn’t be happier to see fans having such a great time with a game we put our heart and soul into.”
The first Remnant game offered satisfying gunplay with decent exploration and a unique aesthetic. It seems as though the team have taken all their learnings from the first game and improved upon them with this sequel.
Considering the fact that Remnant: From the Ashes ended up selling over 3 million copies by the tail of 2021, it will be interesting to see just how quickly Remnant II ends up surpassing its predecessor in that regard.
