Android hits the big half a billion install mark

Android has been growing by a noticeable amount in recent months, highlighted by Eric Schmidt, executive chairman of Google, announcing that Android had reached 1.3 million daily activations last week. Now, Hugo Barra, Google's director of product management for Android has announced that the mobile platform has reach the half a billion install mark.

Due to Apple and Microsoft's more secretive nature we have no true idea of how Android activations compare to iOS and Windows Phone. Although several analyst and surveyor firms see Android as the dominant smartphone platform. Android tablet sales have yet to pick up substantially compared to Apple's iPad, although the recent release of the Nexus 7 is sure to give it a nice boost.

KitGuru says: Congratulations to Google and the Android team for creating (arguably) the best mobile platform around.
