Amazon signs Warner Bros. Kindle deal

Amazon has slipped under the sheets with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, in a bid to bring TV programmes like The West Wing and Fringe, to the Amazon Prime Instant Video library.

Now with this deal locked down, Prime Instant Video users and owners of the Kindle Fire tablet, will gain free access to the shows over the summer. This is the second big company that the online retailer has linked up with its streaming services in the past few months, with MGM coming aboard in June.

“Since launching Prime Instant Video, we’ve continued to expand both the quantity and quality of video content for our Prime members,” said Brad Beale (via TheVexWeb), director of digital video content acquisition for Amazon. “Bringing Fringe and The West Wing – two shows with a devoted fan base – to Prime Instant Video first, is another way for us to add value for Prime members and to continue to give customers content they love.”

While firmly entrenched in the eBook market thanks to its Kindle eReader, Amazon hasn't been quite so able to dominate the tablet audience. However, offerings such as TV and movie streaming are a solid way to increase usership, since they are one of the main reasons people are interested in tablet use.
