Nvidia updates drivers for Borderlands 2 and Mists of Pandaria

Nvidia has released an update for its graphics card drivers, bringing the latest WHQL certified release to 306.23. It brings with it quite an extensive list of updates, with a focus on getting ready for the release of both Borderlands 2 and the latest World of Warcraft expansion, Mists of Pandaria.

The two games now have dedicated SLI and Nvidia 3D vision profiles, as well as PhysX support. They aren't the only ones though, there's also: Orcs Must Die 2, Spec Ops: The Line, Torchlight II, Tornado Force, F1 2012, Darksiders 2, Alan Wake's American Nightmare and many more. The update adds support for the newly released GTX 660, 650 and 660 ti cards, as well as Nvidia TXAA technology. The new anti-aliasing standard is said to be specifically designed to “reduce temporal aliasing (crawling and flickering in motion)” by mixing up hardware AA and a temporal filter. While this isn't a widely used piece of tech at the moment, now that it's fully supported by Nvidia, expect other companies to adopt it in their game developments. If you want to see it in action now, you'll need a copy of The Secret World.

It wouldn't be a big driver update however without performance improvements. Both the GTX 560 and GTX 680 received big gains in certain titles. The 560 will boost Batman: Arkham City by 14%, while the GTX 680 will jump Total War: Shogun 2 a ridiculous 60% in frame rates – due to a performance issue with the last game patch being fixed. Other games that see improvements include Dragon Age II, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat and The Witcher 2: Assasins of kings; though some require SLI to be seen.

KitGuru Says: There's plenty more updated in this one, though those are the biggest changes – you can read about them while the download completes.
