Apple have sold more than 2 million iPhone 5 handsets in the first 24 hours, but they are now apparently struggling to meet the demand and have set back the pre-order delivery times in both the USA and UK. We all knew the demand would be high, but Apple are unable to get the stock into the channel quick enough.
In America, the delay on the handsets has increased to 3-4 weeks. Part of the problem is that Apple have sold all of their initial stock, ‘within the first hour' according to reports. They apparently even stopped taking orders on Saturday for a period of time as their servers were getting hit too hard. If you order today in America you may have to wait for a month before your order is dispatched.
In the United Kingdom, the situation isn't quite so bad, with a delay of 2-3 weeks indicated this morning.
Sales across the globe have hit record levels. The iPhone 5 has doubled the sales figures of the iPhone 4S last year. Clearly the audience are dying to get their hands on the new slim design with increased screen size.
Reviews so far have been positive, with many journalists such as Scott Stein at CNET claiming “The iPhone 5 has them, plus a new processor, plus a new design, plus iOS 6, plus a lot more. It's the best iPhone that's been made.”
The Register have a different take on this however and you can read it over here.
