Samsung gunning for Apple iPad Mini with new tablet

Samsung have launched their new Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet which they are targeting directly at the iPad Mini which Apple launched in November 2012.

Samsung's new Galaxy Note 8.0 has an 8 inch screen, which is slightly bigger than the iPad Mini's 7.9 inch. Samsung will be offering a stylus with the Note 8.0 so users can draw via various applications.

The tablet has yet to receive pricing information, but it is due to go on sale between April and June according to the launch statement delivered in Barcelona, Spain yesterday.

Samsung had an aggressive stance at the event, saying they were the firm to start the tablet revolution and that they would now ‘re-ignite' it.

They claimed that the Note 8.0 offered a ‘new era of intelligent Note technology set to re-ignite the mid-size tablet category that Samsung established in 2010.'

The screen quality from the new Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 is said to be better than Apple's 163 pixels per inch, offering 189 pixels per inch. The battery is also larger, at 4,600 mAh compared to Apple's 4,400 mAh. It will be available in 32GB and 64GB models. It will weigh 11.92 oz.

Kitguru says: On paper it looks strong. Sales figures should be good.
