HTC and Microsoft announce the Windows Phone 8X

Yesterday afternoon London time HTC renewed allegiance to Microsoft in New York. At the press event they announced two new devices for the Windows Phone 8 platform; the flagship 8X and 8S.

The HTC 8X has a very sleek polycarbonate body weighing 130 grams and looks to fit in the hand very well. The Super LCD 2 display is 4.3 inches across and has a 720p resolution. Gorilla Glass 2 is also included.

Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 chipset is under the hood, along with 1 GB of RAM and a disappointing non-expandable 16 GB of storage. This latter specification is perhaps the biggest letdown of the 8X.

The rear facing camera is 8 MP in size and has HTC's ImageChip for faster capture speeds. The front facing 2.1 MP camera has a much wider lens than other front facing sensors.

Beats audio is also on board and there are built-in amplifiers to further boost the listening experience through headphones. The battery is 1800 mAh in size, a little bit smaller than what we are used to for recent flagship devices but battery life should be pretty good regardless.

The HTC 8X will be available in over 50 countries from November.
