In a recent interview, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer was questioned over the upcoming Surface tablet launch. The passionate CEO believes they have a “very competitive product from the features perspective.”
Ballmer also went on to hint at possible Surface pricing; from “$300 to about $700 or $800,” is the “sweet spot” for pricing. If we were to assume that this is tentative pricing for the tablet series, then we might expect the lower-end Surface running Windows RT to start from $299 while the top-end Surface Pro running Windows 8 might cost up to $700 or $800.
Previous rumours had suggested a $199 asking price for Surface but unhappy partners may have caused Microsoft to back down if there was substance behind the rumour.
The Microsoft CEO also believes that Windows Phone 8 has great potential for success.
“We've got a big challenge in front of us. We're a very small player, but we have a different point of view in terms of user experience. We've got great cloud integration with the rest of the Microsoft world, which a lot of people participate in. So I think our point of view on user interface, the great work that our hardware vendors are doing and the integration with Windows should help ratchet us up.”
