Foxconn close China Plant as workers fight

Foxconn have closed one of their factories in China's Shanxi province after a fight broke out between up to 2,000 workers. 40 people were sent to hospital and other employees were arrested by authorities.

Louis Woo, spokesman for Taipei based Foxconn said by phone to Bloomberg “We want to give people time to cool down.”

Foxconn chairman Terry Gou was informed of the fight at 5am and agreed that production should stop while the situation was dealt with. Woo hasn't said if parts for the iPhone 5 are made at this factory, but there are 79,000 employees working here. The factory is responsible for the production of components, electronics and precision moulding for devices.

According to reports, the fight started between ‘rival' worker groups at a dormitory operated by an outside company. At 11pm last night the fight escalated and security and police struggled to control the situation. By 3am the situation was settled and some workers were arrested. No details of why the fight started have yet been made public.
