Toyota recall 7.43 million cars with power window issues

Toyota are experiencing another embarrassing situation right now as over 7 million cars worldwide are being recalled so they can fix faulty power window switches.

The company have faced a number of problems in 2008 and then recalls in 2009-2010. They fought back to claim the top spot as the world's biggest car maker but they are now facing their biggest recall in their history.

138,000 cars have the problem in the United Kingdom but the bulk of recalls are in China, US and the rest of Europe.

The fault causes the electric window switch in the drivers door to stick or fail completely. They add that if the customer tried to fix it with ‘commercially available lubricants' then it could melt the switch assembly.

The recall covers the RAV4, Yaris, Auris and Corolla models which were built between September 2006 and December 2008. The repair will take the mechanic around 40 minutes.

The programme will take months to complete and affected customers will be contacted within the next six weeks to arrange a suitable time for the repair.

Kitguru says: They have been troubled with high profile recalls over the previous 5 years.
