Samsung investing $4bn in Texas chip plant

Samsung Electronics have announced today that they are planning to invest $4bn into their chipmaking factory in Austin. The goal? To improve logic chip production to meet rising market demands worldwide.

The money is being pumped into the production output, handling primarily processors for advanced mobile applications. They said in an emailed statement that mass production is scheduled to begin in Q3 of 2013.

The company have invested more than $13 billion into Samsung Austin Semiconductor since it started in 1996.

Kitguru says: Samsung Electronics supply components for many other companies and are the world's largest memory chip supplier by revenue.
