Apple iPad still dominating China market

Apple are facing stiff competition worldwide by many Android and Windows tablets, however they are still the dominant force in China where they are claiming over 71 percent share.

Analysys International figures show that the tablet market in China is very strong, and growing – with 2.6 million devices sold during the third quarter, an 11.1 percent increase from the previous quarter. This also translates to a 62.5 percent jump from the same time last year.

The iPad took top spot, however Lenovo took second place with just over 10 percent, local firm Eben with 3.61 percent and Samsung taking 3.53 percent. Information came from Digitimes.

IDC show strong results for Apple too, although their percentage dominance is rated more at 66 percent, and Lenovo on 9 percent.

The dominance for Apple could have been much higher if they had reduced the prices of their tablets, such as the iPad Mini which is very expensive compared to competing Android tablets. Apple really only target the high end audience and the figures can be expected to drop by percentage next year.

Kitguru says: Strong figures for Apple, but we think if they marked up less of a profit margin they would be a in stronger position, long term.
