Acer are one of the many companies who are struggling to generate sales, losing money last year. They are placing a lot of focus into their new Aspire S7 UltraBook – which we have to admit, looks beautiful.
Acer have earned a strong reputation over the years for releasing competitive priced laptops for the mainstream audience, however the Aspire S7 is something special. It measures 12.5mm thick and the lid tilts back 180 degrees – much like the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon which we reviewed last week. [yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nf2iN12AudU']
The Aspire S7 also ships with a touchscreen and is the ACER flagship notebook based on Windows 8. They are said to be releasing two versions with a 11.6 inch and a 13.3 inch screen. The company claim the 11.6 inch model has a 9 hour battery life and the 13.3 inch model has a 12 hour battery life.
The S7 series has the following ports:
- Micro HDMI port
- Micro SD slot
- Thunderbolt port
- 3.0 USB port
The starting price is said to be $1,199, so they may have a problem breaking the £1,000 barrier when it reaches the United Kingdom.
Intel's UltraBook platform has yet to really gain traction, mainly due to the high price. Acer hope they can sell a lot of units in the next year, although analysts are still unsure.
Acer certainly won't be short on competition as Dell, Hewlett Packard and Asustek will also have new Windows 8 models unveiled at the same time within the next month.
Acer have hired a new marketing leader this year and their focus is changing slightly under the new leadership.
Kitguru says: The price might be too high to generate a lot of sales for the company.
