LaFerrari hybrid supercar – 217mph+ 949 horsepower

Ferrari have unveiled their next supercar at the Geneva Motor Show. They are dubbing the car ‘LaFerrari'. The hybrid supercar can produce 949 horsepower and hit 0-60 mph in less than 3 seconds. The price? A cool $1 million.

The rumours of the upcoming Ferrari hybrid car have been rife. It has finally been revealed at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and was an instant hit with the punters.

LaFerrari means ‘The Ferrari' and the price will certainly put it out of reach for almost everyone. That said, we expect them to sell out, as they always do. The name seems a little naff to us, especially when we look back at other iconic cars from the same company, such as the Enzo. This car was named after the founder of the company Enzo Ferrari, but it had a certain ring to it that is without question instantly memorable and iconic.

LaFerrari has a staggering 949 horsepower and 664 pound feet of torque.

The 6.3 liter V12 engine can produce 789 horsepower and 516 pound feet of torque with a 9,250 rpm redline and a 13:5:1 compression ratio. Alongside is an electric motor which produces another 161 horsepower, with yet another small electric motor powering the cars other systems. There is a seven speed dual clutch gearbox onboard.

The batteries in the car weigh only 132 pounds and are mounted directly to the chassis. The car recharges them with regenerative braking as it slows down and also uses excess torque when it isn't needed.

The chassis of the car is constructed from carbon fiber and Kevlar. The weight wasn't announced but estimations put it at around 2,800 pounds.

Acceleration figures are fantastic. 0-62 mph in under three seconds. 0 to 124 mph in less than seven seconds and 0 to 186mph in only 15 seconds. Top speed is in excess of 217 mph.

Internal testing shows that the car was five seconds faster than the Enzo across their Fiorano test track. The company are only making 499 LaFerrari's and they will probably sell out as they make them.

Kitguru says: We have ordered one and will able to review it later this year. We wish.
