Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2 seemingly coming to Xbox Game Pass

The much-anticipated RPG Baldur’s Gate 3 has officially launched to a great deal of fanfare. Unfortunately, due to issues surrounding the Series S, Xbox owners may be waiting all the way up until 2024 to get their hands on the game. That said, it seems as though Xbox fans of the Baldur’s Gate series will not be left out, as the franchise’s prior entries are set to come to Game Pass.

As noted by multiple Xbox Game Pass subscribers (and reported by ‘GamePassTracker’), Microsoft sent out a push notification via the Xbox Game Pass app stating that both Baldur’s Gate and its sequel will be coming to the subscription service soon.

Microsoft themselves have yet to officially comment on this, however its inclusion on Game Pass is all but confirmed – especially as the exact same thing has happened twice this year already with Shadow Warrior 3 and Maquette.

As mentioned, Larian Studios’ current struggles with getting split-screen co-op to work on the Series S is holding back the Series X version of Baldur’s Gate 3. For the uninitiated, Microsoft requires all games developed for the Xbox Series X and S to have feature parity with one another. What this means is that while Series S games are allowed to run at lower framerates with reduced resolutions and such when compared to the Series X, any actual gameplay features must be equal on both consoles.

While it may be disappointing that Xbox owners will have to wait ages still to get their hands on Baldur’s Gate 3, the sting will certainly be lessened if/when the title’s predecessors find their way onto Game Pass.
