Lenovo to launch ‘Legion Go’ PC gaming handheld

There has been a huge rise in the popularity of handheld PC gaming systems over the last few years. We've seen more OEMs jump on this trend recently, with the likes of the ROG Ally. Lenovo might be the next big name in tech to launch a PC gaming handheld, currently known as the Legion Go. 

According to Windows Central, Lenovo has been preparing its own handheld gaming system for a while now. Known as the Legio nGo, the device would spot an 8-inch display and would be powered by an AMD Phoenix APU. Like the Asus ROG Ally, Lenovo's handheld will also run Windows 11 to maximise compatibility with PC games. Other devices like the Steam Deck run on Linux instead, relying on Proton to act as a compatibility layer to get many PC games running, which means not all games are compatible, including some big names like Destiny 2.

It has been said that Microsoft may be working closer with OEMs creating devices like this to clean up the Windows experience on a handheld. Microsoft has previously expressed public interest in making Windows more user-friendly for handheld devices.

Exactly how this handheld will perform up against other Windows-based alternatives still remains to be seen and there is of course a question mark around pricing. We should hopefully get more details on that in the coming months.

KitGuru Says: Gamescom is coming up, so I wouldn't be surprised to see an official announcement for this during the event. After all, it is the biggest gaming convention in the world and has always attracted a wider crowd of PC enthusiasts and hardware companies compared to the likes of E3.
