Android distribution stats reveal Gingerbread still dominates

The latest Android platform distribution numbers have been released, revealing that Android 2.3 Gingerbread is still present on most Android phones. The aging version of Android is still on 57.5% of devices, although it has dropped from 60.6% in August.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich encountered good growth month on month, going from 15.9% to 20.9%. Meanwhile the latest Android version, 4.1 Jelly Bean is now on 1.2% of devices, up from 0.8% last month.

The older legacy pre-Gingerbread versions are still present on just under 20% of devices, and is shrinking with each month.

The numbers for Android 4.0 and 4.1 should increase further in the coming months as more software updates are realeased by manufacturers and new phones become available with the newer versions.

KitGuru says: The steady climb continues for newer version of Android.
