Over the weekend Sony has announced which of their smartphones will be updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
The list as it stands is as follows:
- Xperia T
- Xperia TX
- Xperia V
- Xperia S
- Xperia acro S
- Xperia ion
- Xperia P
- Xperia go
- Xperia J
Strangely, some other models released this year such as the Xperia U are not mentioned even though its internals are much the same as the Xperia P. Meanwhile, Sony's entire 2011 Android smartphone lineup will remain at Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for eternity.
The three latest models to be announced, the Xperia T, TX and V will be upgraded in the first quarter of 2013 while the others will be presumably updated later in the year.
Sony's excuse? “[We] would not be able to guarantee owners of these smartphones the user experience you expect and we demand.” While we would beg to differ the results are perhaps not worth the input. Fortunately, all handsets will continue to receive maintenance updates.
KitGuru says: This news is somewhat disappointing but it is just another thing to be aware of when entering the Android ecosystem.
