GoDaddy not hacked, claim router table problems

We reported yesterday that an Anonymous source had claimed responsibility for the raft of websites taken down in an ‘attack' on GoDaddy.com. The company issued a statement claiming that the problem was based on corrupted router tables, not ‘external influences'.

GoDaddy interim CEO Scott Wagner, wrote a small announcement which read “The service outage was not caused by external influences, “It was not a ‘hack' and it was not a denial of service attack (DDoS).”

After the outage, Twitter user @AnonymousOwn3r who said he was the ‘security leader of Anonymous' took responsibility for the downtime, posting a video on Youtube and issuing a statement on Twitter. He/She later said that the outage attack was not part of the Anonymous collective.

Wagner said that a series of ‘internal network events' were the problem, corrupting router data tables and causing many of their sites to appear offline. The company have not detailed how the tables were corrupted but have said that they took additional measures to ‘prevent this from occurring again'. The company used Verisign to handle their DNS services when the outage happened.
