The 4th generation iPad, or ‘iPad 4' as some people are calling it has been taken apart by iFixit. They have found that apart from the Lightning connector, the tablet's internal design has not changes at all when compared to the iPad 3.
The company tore apart the latest revision of the 9.7 inch iPad and found that their sample was using an LG sourced Retina display, not Samsung. LG were meant to be ramping up production of their own high resolution displays and then starting shipping a while later. Samsung were always the main Apple partner, but the company are trying to diversify their supply chain with other companies.
A full list of the chips on the logic board are:
- Apple A6X SoC
- Hynix H2JTDG8UD2MBR 16 GB NAND Flash
- Apple 338S1116 Cirrus Logic Audio Codec
- 343S0622-A1 Dialog Semi PMIC
- Apple 338S1077 Cirrus Logic Class D Amplifier
- QVP TI 261 A9P2
The Lightning connector is placed inside a frame that is the same size as the outgoing 30 pin unit.
Kitguru says: You can get the new version of the iPad 3 now at Apple stores, although demand as usual is high.
