Wannabe Guitar Hero? try the new auto pitch guitar

Hands up if you think you are Eddie Van Halen because you could beat Guitar Hero on expert level? Well the next stage in the evolution to true Guitar genius has opened up thanks to the Peavey AT-200 electric guitar which features the Antares Auto Tune pitch correction technology.

This was launched in January 2012, but has just been released, almost a year later. The guitar has a solid basswood body and a 25.5 inch scale maple neck topped by a 24 fret rosewood fingerboard.

The Peavey AT-200 guitar looks impressive and just like the ‘real thing' except it is loaded with an active system that can tune the strings and then keep them in tune. This pitch perfect string tuning is handled by the AT-200 onboard DSP technology. [yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NurkeWG-a-0&']

This auto tuning technology is powered on by pushing in the tone knob on the front of the guitar, and then the volume knob can be used to activate the actual tuning. Players can also switch to alternative tunings and utilise virtual capos.

The system will monitor the precise pitch of every string and electronically make any adjustments necessary to ensure than the notes and chords are also in tune, regardless of finger positioning and pressure. Peavey claim that the Auto Tune system is clever enough to recognise vibrato and intentional bends. Active circuitry is powered by four AA sized batteries.

The players can also add tunings and features from Antares which can be loaded directly into the AT 200 and then controlled by any MIDI source.

Kitguru says: Tuning problems are now a thing of the past?
