There are always victims of new Android updates; the countless handsets that will never be updated to the latest version by their manufacturers but past Nexus devices aren't exclusions either. As Android 4.2 Jelly Bean starts to roll out, lead Android developer Jean-Baptiste Quéru has confirmed that the Samsung Nexus S and Motorola Xoom will not be updated to Android 4.2 and will forever remain on Android 4.1.2.
Both devices have had fairly good runs, the Nexus S has been up to date for 23 months while the Xoom has been up to date for 18 months. Instead of doing something like Apple does where more hardware intensive features are dropped from older handsets (although this is arguable), Google will software updates for the pair of devices completely, bar a serious security exploit discovery.
KitGuru says: While official support ends, it's only a matter of weeks before custom firmware based on Android 4.2 is available.
