Google's Android platform is dominating the Chinese market, taking 90 percent share. Analysts expect this figure will drop however when the iPhone 5 and Windows Phone 8 models will be introduced to the China market at the end of the year.
Market Research as shown that Android has already taken 70 percent of the worldwide smartphone market. Android has proven popular due to the wide range of models and competitive pricing from various Google partners.
Android models are available in China for under CNY1,000 – UK £100 which has helped push the phones to a very wide audience. Research has shown that the average price of smartphones in China in Q3 was around £140 (CNY 1393). This has increased by 10% on quarter. iOS on the other hand commands a higher price – at average of CNY4523 (£456 UK).
Apple's high price has meant that the iPhone commands 4.2% market share in China, much lower than the 15% Apple claim worldwide.
