Blizzard has filed a complaint with the National Arbitration Forum for HeroesofWarcraft.com, hoping that the system will force the site's current owner, one Simon Rattray of Newcastle – according to the WHOIS page – to hand it over.
What Blizzard wants the domain for remains to be seen, but this isn't the first domain with that name that Blizzard has shown an interest in. Back in September it registered HeroesofWarcraft.co.uk, so there's obviously an interest in that brand. It could simply be that it wants to collect up Warcraft domains, especially this one considering it was the initial title of Warcraft III, before it became the Frozen Throne.
Fusible is speculating that this could be at hint a Blizzard's plan to create a new Warcraft title, perhaps Warcraft IV. However to this writer, Heroes of Warcraft sounds very much like Heroes of Newerth. Considering DotA was originally born within Warcraft III, could we be set to see a Blizzard created MOBA title? It seems surprising it hasn't done one so far, but a contemporary title similar to some of the big MOBA names out there, with Warcraft characters, could be very interesting.
KitGuru Says: The MOBA landscape is already pretty crowded, but it does have a lot of players. League of Legends alone has tens of millions of monthly players, so it could spare a couple million to move over to Heroes of Warcraft.
What do you think this is? A new MOBA game? A domain grab by a company that wants to control its brand? Let us know.
