Sony has another State of Play stream on the way

Typically, Sony holds a State of Play stream each September and that trend looks set to continue this year. Apparently, Sony is planning another game reveal stream very soon.

According to games reporter, Jeff Grubb, Sony's State of Play stream will return soon. While it won't necessarily be a full showcase as we saw back in May, each State of Play typically brings a good mix of updates on announced titles, as well as new reveals.

Sony's PlayStation Showcase in May was criticised for its heavy focus on live-service multiplayer games, moving away from the single-player action Sony's first-party games are best known for. However, the stream did end off with a chunk of gameplay for Spider-Man 2, which is coming out later this year.

We don't really have many guesses as to what Sony may show next. We know it has been a while since we've had an update from studios like Sucker Punch, additionally, Naughty Dog has been working away on The Last of Us Factions for years and is long overdue for a reveal. Sony is typically pretty good about keeping a lid on leaks for surprise game announcements, so there could be plenty more going on behind the scenes. One big thing to look out for is the announcement of the new PS5 revision, which features a slightly smaller chassis but isn't necessarily small enough to be considered a ‘Slim' model.

This news follows on from Sony's announcement of the PlayStation Portal launch date, which is November 15th. It also follows on from a new PS+ price increase for 12-month subscription plans.

KitGuru Says: What are you hoping to see from Sony at its next State of Play? For me, I'd like to see more interesting single-player games, although I will say that a bunch of the multiplayer games announced earlier this year did seem interesting.
