Acer Iconia B1 tablet arriving early next year for around $99

These days you can find cheap Android tablets at most PC retailers. However, most of the time these “bargains” are horrible pieces of technology. In the past six months, the general public's expectations of a cheap tablet has changed considerably with the ASUS Nexus 7, and to an extent the iPad Mini.

Acer will be one in the next group of brands to delve into the super-cheap tablet arena with the Iconia B1. Reports arising from apparently reliable sources reveal that the tablet could retail for “around $99”. Reported specifications include a 7 inch 1024×600 resolution display and a 1.2 GHz processor. It has not been revealed, but the Iconia B1 will likely run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upon launch.

The $99 Acer Iconia B1 tablet will be targeted for developing nations and as such it is not clear whether there will be a North American or European launch at this stage.

KitGuru says: Now could be the time when major OEMs can produce a cheap tablet without it reflecting badly on the rest of their brand.
