Microsoft running new team for future Kinect experiences

Microsoft is actively hunting for a new software development engineer, to join a team working on future Xbox Kinect experiences and one of the biggest requirements for the position, is a readiness to fail, fast.

Forming as part of Microsoft's entertainment division, the accepted applicant will be joining a team of “veterans” from Xbox 360, Xbox Live and Kinect development. There's also a lot of secrecy involved: “Most of what we work on is top-secret; you may not know what your new project is until you’ve accepted an offer,” reads the job posting. “Not all of our ideas will fly. We will fail, and fail fast, on some projects. We will celebrate those failures because they are vital to making sure the right ideas take off in a big way.”

It goes on to explain that if you want a comfortable job, with little risk, you shouldn't bother applying. “But if you’re passionate about the potential for Kinect to continue to revolutionize entertainment and are a seasoned software engineer with the skills to prototype and build the future of premium Kinect-powered experiences, we have a growing team of talented people who want to take entertainment into the future.”

Microsoft is looking for a leader, someone to take the team by the helm and wrestle new Kinect potential from them. That person will be working with artists, designers and must have worked on published apps and videos before.

Specific responsibilities include:

• Creative and rapid prototyping in collaboration with producers, game designers and artists
• Develop implementation plans and software according to functional requirements & feature specifications
• Collaborate with team members in multiple disciplines to clarify and deliver tools, technology, and feature work
• Multitask between projects and teams fluidly

KitGuru Says: It seems likely that this will be the Kinect 2 development team, though perhaps also looking into new controllers and augmented reality with the next-gen Xbox. Specifics though, for now, remain elusive.
