Android based ‘GameStick’ console – size of a USB drive

The OUYA has received a lot of attention from the press, but another tiny console has been getting some visibility lately – the Android powered ‘GameStick'. This console is actually even smaller, and less expensive than the OUYA.

The console is based inside a unit around the same size as a USB thumb drive.

The console is actually inside the smaller device shown above, which is an HDMI dongle. When it is being moved around, it can be stored inside the accompanying Bluetooth game controller, also seen in the image above. All you need is a television or monitor with HDMI support and a cable.

This console is powered around Android, with Jelly Bean installed out of the box.

The console is based around a 1.5ghz dual core Amlogic 8726 MX processor. There is 1GB of ram installed and 8GB of flash memory for storage. The OUYA has a quad core processor so is likely to offer a slightly smoother experience in some situations.

The GameStick console has 802.11 b/g/n WiFi support, 1080p video decoding and BlueTooth LE 4.0 which can be used to connect a mouse, keyboard and up to 4 controllers for multiplayer games.

The company are looking for funding through Kickstarter. The company need to raise $100,000 and have already raised $70,000 at time of publication.
