Samsung refreshes the Galaxy S II with a ‘Plus’ version

The original Galaxy S II from Samsung was a brilliant device and looking back it is undoubtedly one of the handsets that started to make the general public refer to smartphones as “smartphones” over “iPhones”. Obviously Samsung is out to seek as much attention possible on their wave at the moment by launching the Galaxy S II Plus.

As far as we can tell from early press releases is that the Plus model offers a very modest upgrade over the original. The only major changes that are apparent this early on is the moving from 16 or 32 GB of internal storage to 8 GB. Also the S II Plus will launch with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean while the original model launched nearly two years ago will be updated to this in the coming months.

Other than this the 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of memory, microSD slot, 4.3 inch WVGA Super AMOLED Plus display, 1650 mAh battery and 8 MP camera remain consistent with the original offering. What will be key to the S II Plus' success will be pricing and availability and as yet neither points have been addressed by Samsung.
