Alan Wake II will not have a performance mode on Series S

Last week we reported that the much-anticipated and upcoming survival-horror title Alan Wake II from Remedy Entertainment would be getting a performance mode on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. At the time, no word was given on whether Microsoft’s lower-powered Series S would receive such an option, however the studio has now confirmed that the Xbox Series S will be limited to a single 30fps mode.

As mentioned, last week, the communications director for Remedy Entertainment – Thomas Puba – took to Twitter to confirm that current-gen consoles would be getting multiple performance modes, writing at the time: “I’m glad to say that Alan Wake 2 will have a Performance mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X. The game has been built from the beginning as a 30fps experience focusing on visuals and ambiance, but somehow we have managed to include a solid Performance mode. We’ll talk details later.”

Puba conveniently left out any mention of the Xbox Series S, and so Eurogamer reached out to the studio for additional clarification – with them revealing that the Series S will indeed not be getting said performance mode.

Serving as an entry point into this latest console generation, the Series S has seen quite a few compromises over its many game releases, with one of the most common omissions being the inclusion of multiple performance options. For those who own a Series S, hopefully this does not matter, but regardless it is somewhat unfortunate to see that the console will be limited to 30fps – even if that is the intended experience.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the Series S this many years into the generation? Is 60fps a must-have option for all current-gen games? Let us know your thoughts down below.
