Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis passes 3 million downloads in less than 48 hours

Square Enix has been doing a good job in recent years bringing their older Final Fantasy titles up to modern standards. Alongside the major remakes such as what we have seen with the likes of Final Fantasy VII, the publisher has also remastered its older Pixel styled entries among others. One of the more interesting projects is Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis. Mere hours following its release, the game has already surpassed 3 million downloads.

Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis is a mobile-focused compilation of the classic Final Fantasy VII alongside its many spin-offs (Advent Children; Before Crisis; Crisis Core and more). Having officially launched on the 7th of September for Android and iOS, the free-to-play game has already amassed a great deal of downloads, with Square Enix taking to Twitter to say:

“Thank you so much! We've reached [sic] surpassed 3 million downloads! To celebrate, we're giving out another Blue Crystal x1,000 to all players! Have fun playing FF7EC!”

It is interesting to see Square’s current strategy for Final Fantasy VII, with consoles being treated to AAA remakes/reimaginings of the first game alongside slightly smaller budget remakes/remasters of its spin-offs (such as what we have seen with the PSP title Crisis Core).

It’ll be curious to see whether opting for a free-to-play gacha version of FFVII for mobile ultimately helps or hinders the classic JRPG. for now at least, it seems to be a success.
