As part of Sony’s pivot to adapting its many original video game IPs into other mediums, we have seen the likes of HBO’s The Last of Us, an Uncharted film, and the recently-released Gran Turismo movie come to fruition. While these projects have had varying levels of success, one adaptation which almost no one expected to do well was the Peacock Original Twisted Metal show. Surprisingly, not only has it resonated with fans, but has broken records for the streaming service.
As reported by Deadline, two weeks on from the show’s premiere on the 27th of July, the high-octane action comedy Twisted Metal has become streaming service Peacock’s “most binged” comedy to date.
Going into more details, NBCUniversal claimed that on average, viewers have watched 3 episodes back to back in a single viewing – with many even tackling the 10 episode season in one go. Of course, being 30-minutes in length, binging the entire show in one go isn’t too tough of a task, but it does indicate that viewers enjoyed what they watched and wanted more of it.
Considering the low expectations that many had for this show (especially in the wake of the less-than-stellar trailers) it is encouraging to see that Twisted Metal has found itself an audience – with a current Rotten Tomato audience score of 94%. Not bad for a franchise which hasn’t had a new entry in over a decade.
