Parkour cyberpunk game Ghostrunner has sold 2.5 million copies

Ghostrunner is a rather unique cyberpunk-action game, offering a satisfying gameplay loop in an interesting world. Developed by One More Level and published by 505 Games, its success has resonated with millions of fans. How many millions? Well, the team has now announced that ahead of the sequel’s October launch, Ghostrunner has sold over 2.5 million copies.

Making the announcement on the game’s store page, the team at One More Level said “The entire Ghostrunner team is proud to share that Ghostrunner has sold over 2.5 million units since it launched on October 27, 2020! Thank you for being a part of the Ghostrunner community and helping to spread the word about Ghostrunner and Ghostrunner 2.”

This is doubly impressive when considering the fact that Ghostrunner has in the past been made available on game subscription services, meaning its total player base is likely far higher. Offering additional details on its success, the team stated that “We originally intended to make a 2 million units sold announcement, but the excitement around Ghostrunner 2 has been so incredible that we quickly jumped to 2.5+ million copies so we thought we might as well provide you the most up to date figures.”

For the uninitiated, Ghostrunner is a fast-paced first-person parkour title which feels like a mix between Mirror’s Edge and Hotline Miami in which you “slice your enemies with a monomolecular katana, dodge bullets with your superhuman reflexes, and employ a variety of specialized techniques to prevail.”

Ghostrunner 2 looks to be a much more ambitious title, and so as long as the sequel manages to maintain its smooth and fluid gameplay from the first game, then it will likely hit similar levels of success in even less time upon its release on the 26th of October.
