Gearbox plans to bring back cancelled MOBA ‘Gigantic’

The massive success of games like League of Legends and Dota 2 spurred the development of tons of MOBAs, with major publishers all trying their hand at delivering a similar-style game. Many of these attempts ended up shutting down but it looks like at least one will be making a comeback soon.

Publishers like EA, Blizzard and Epic Games struggled to break into the MOBA market, with each eventually dropping development of their MOBA titles. In the near future, it looks like Gigantic will be returning:

Gigantic was an Xbox One-era MOBA game developed by Motiga. The game was an Xbox One and Windows exclusive, entering beta in 2015 before fully releasing in 2017. The game was then shut down one year later in 2018.

Gearbox ended up acquiring the IP after the game's shut down and according to Windows Central, Gearbox is now planning to relaunch Gigantic. A recent round of closed playtest invites were sent out, teasing the opportunity to “play Gigantic once more” and “re-live the good old days”. The playtests will take place this weekend.

Given that this information has leaked out, we should expect an official announcement soon.
