Rockstar threatened to “Sue the s%*t,” out of Frank Darabont

Frank Darabont, the writer and director of such classics as Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption and the current success story that is The Walking Dead, was threatened with legal action by Rockstar after he was set to begin work on a TV show called La Noir.

Of course Rockstar has a game with the same name (+ an e at the end) and the show was also gonna be set in Los Angeles in the late 40s, the same time period as the detective investigation game is set. Darabont explained in an interview with io9 that even though his show was based on a book by the same name, he felt compelled to change it.

“Yes, it was going to be called L.A. Noir, based on the book by John Buntin. But the video game company with the video game called L.A. Noire (with an e!) threatened to sue the s%*t out of me, TNT, every company that actually ever worked in Hollywood,” he said.

“And they have the billions of dollars to back it up, apparently. So we're changing the title, and I do believe the title is going to be Lost Angels. This is being announced right here. It's a very, very cool show. It's [set in] 1947 LA and it stars my very dear friend Jon Bernthal, whom I worked with on The Walking Dead who is now free of that…”

KitGuru Says: So it looks like the TV show is coming, it'll just be called Lost Angels instead. What do you guys think, poor show by Rockstar? Or was it completely justified?
