ASUS is “interested in making Windows Phones”

ASUS has revealed in a recent interview that the Taiwanese company who is typically better known for PC components and laptops are looking into producing smartphones based on Microsoft's Windows Phone platform.

In the interview Benson Lin, corporate vice president of mobile communication products at ASUS says that they are “interested in making Windows Phones,” in the future. Given ASUS track record of timely software updates and quality mobile products this will be enticing to many; especially as the Windows Phone platform continues to grow.

Lin also went onto say that its PadFone class of devices “makes sense for Windows 8.” The PadFone as it is, is a smartphone running Android that is able to be docked into a tablet shell. This transforms the device from a smartphone to what is essentially a tablet running on the smartphone's hardware and operating system. However, Microsoft's specifications for its platforms are rather strict which could put any such device out of question.

KitGuru says: While it is nice to dream a little, we are still at least a year off from any sub-10 inch Microsoft platform based devices from ASUS.
