Samsung announces Galaxy Xcover 2

Samsung has today announced the successor to the rugged Galaxy xCover Android smartphone that we reviewed last year. The Xcover 2 is better in just about every area over its predecessor and given our impressions of the original this can only be a good thing.

The Xcover 2's primary appeal is to those roaming the outdoors with IP67 certification and GPS complimented with GLONASS support. Given how cheap that original felt we hope this is one area Samsung has improved on. Other specifications include a 4 inch WVGA display, an unknown 1 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of memory and 4 GB of expandable storage. The 5 MP camera has a dedicated button for easy access to quick snapshots.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean layered with the TouchWiz Nature UX should equal to a software experience roughly equivalent to Samsung's upper-tier devices.

KitGuru says: With greater features on-board, the Xcover 2 should be a much better device than its predecessor.
