Patent Hints At Samsung Galaxy Gear Smartwatch Name And Features

A patent submitted on 29th July 2013 by Samsung has hinted that its smartwatch device will be called ‘Samsung Galaxy Gear'. Some of the basic capabilities have also been hinted at in the patent.

According to the patent, Samsung Galaxy Gear will be “Wearable digital electronic devices in the form of a wristwatch, wrist band or bangle capable of providing access to the Internet and for sending and receiving phone calls, electronic mails and messages”.

Further information from the patent indicates the smartwatch's tablet computer-, smart phone-, and personal computer-like functionality.

While the name itself is of little importance, could the addition of the ‘Galaxy' branding from the previously-suggested ‘Samsung Gear' moniker indicate functionality that links in with current Samsung Galaxy products? Could we be seeing the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch using an Android-based operating system?

The full patent application can be viewed here.

KitGuru says: More information about Samsung's smartwatch could be revealed at next month's IFA consumer electronics show.

Emulation is the saving grace of the video games industry. Despite its controversial nature, the technology will be the only way in which all games are preserved for the future – free from licensing agreements and other such nonsense. Better still is the fact that in a majority of cases, emulation allows for a more accurate recreation of the game’s original experience than official offerings, due to countless complex shaders, filters and tweakable settings. And the best part? Thanks to the progression of technology, your humble smartphone is able to do all this and more – giving you the power of 10,000 games in the palm of your hand.
