Netflix are offering a pot of $100,000 to developers worldwide who show the best result when pushing Cloud computing forward.
Netflix CPO Neil Hunt said “Cloud computing has become a hot topic recently, but the technology is still emerging. No doubt many of the key ideas that will take it to the next level have yet to be conceived, explored, and developed.”
The Netflix Cloud prize will be separated into 10 different categories and will be judged by a panel of independent technology pioneers including Amazon CTO Werner Vogels. Each category prize will be $10,000.
Netflix class themselves as a ‘cloud pioneer' moving their services to the cloud in 2009, by using Amazon Web Services.
Hunt added “We're laying railroad tracks for cloud adoption and usage. The Netflix Cloud Prize is designed to improve understanding of what it takes to build native applications for the cloud that take full advantage of the opportunities for scalable computing.”
The Netflix Cloud Prize will run until September 15th and the winners will be announced in October. They will all be invited to attend the Amazon Web Services Re:Invent Conference in November to claim their awards.
Netflix launched two new features this week and ISP Speed Index to show which ISP's deliver the best media streaming experience. They also launched Facebook Integration for the American audience.
